Last night, the Nationals made a 2nd trade on July 30th, this time dealing Michael Soroka to the Cubs. While the free agent signing of Soroka was controversial amongst fans, Soroka had some very good underlying data that makes him a very intriguing pitcher for a Cubs team trying to get back to postseason success. In return, the Nationals are receiving a pro-ready depth bat and a very intriguing lottery ticket.

Let’s take a deep dive into the new members of the Washington Nationals.

Christian Franklin, OF

Christian Franklin may be a name college baseball fans recognize, as he was a big part of the very good 2021 Arkansas team. Drafted in the 4th round of the 2021 MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs, the 25-year-old missed all of the 2022 campaign with a torn patella tendon. Since returning in 2023, all he has done is hit. Now in AAA, Franklin has posted the following stats:

390 PA, .265/.393/.427, 117 wRC+, 8 HR, .162 ISO, 20.5 K%, 16.2 BB%, 46.6 GB%
