FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Washington Nationals fans got their first taste of right-handed pitcher R.J. Sales as he took the mound for the Class-A Fredericksburg Nationals on Thursday night against the Salem Red Sox.

Sales, acquired from the Detroit Tigers in the Kyle Finnegan trade, struggled in his outing with the FredNats in Myrtle Beach, allowing four hits and six runs in just 3.1 innings of work. However, he fared much better against Salem, striking out a career-high nine batters across five innings of two-run baseball.

Walks and hits have been a concern of his throughout his first professional season between the Lakeland Flying Tigers and now in Fredericksburg, but he was able to limit the damage to five hits and two walks, giving the FredNats runway to take the lead and hold it for good.

While not overpowering with his fastball as he sits in the low-to-mid 90s, his secondary pitches, between his cutter, slider, and changeup, made all the difference on the mound.

The 2025 season for Fredericksburg is quickly winding down with just a few series left to go, but a strong finish to the summer for Sales could put him in a great spot for a promotion to High-A Wilmington to start the 2026 campaign.
