CORNELIO BACK IN DC

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
After making his MLB debut on April 24th, the Nationals sent Riley Cornelio to Rochester after playing just one game in the majors. While in Rochester, Cornelio led the team with 5 wins and 64 strikeouts. Yesterday, Washington recalled Cornelio, and he pitched against the Diamondbacks.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
In the MLB: In the two games Cornelio has played in, he pitched four innings, gave up four hits and four runs, walked seven batters, and struck out two.
Rochester: In 2026, Cornelio posted a 4.87 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP through 44.1 innings pitched. He threw 64 strikeouts and allowed 34 hits and 24 runs.
Roster swap: Cole Henry was sent to Rochester, in exchange for Cornelio to the Nats.
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
When asked about moving up to the majors, Cornelio said, “I feel like I’m really ready.” Manager Blake Butera also commented on Cornelios' journey, saying, “We told him he was coming out for one outing, basically just to give him a chance to dip his toe in the water before he comes up here – hopefully longer-term.”

ELI WILLITS MOVES TO HIGH-A

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Eli Willits has been thriving for the Fredericksburg Nationals, and as a result, has been moved up to the High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks. The number four prospect in the MLB has been a machine at the plate this year, with a .300 batting average, 37 RBIs, and a .500 slugging percentage.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
Timeline: MLB.com predicts that Willits will be in the MLB playing for the Nats in 2028.
Improvements: Willits’ on-base percentage and slugging percentage have gone up from last year.
Expectations: With past nationals shortstops Ian Desmond, Trea Turner, and CJ Abrams all being all-stars, Willits has big shoes to fill. On top of that, Willits is the youngest First overall pick since Ken Griffey Jr.
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
Willits trains hard to the point where games don’t seem as difficult. Willits said, “We’re super competitive in our practices, so that when we go to the games, we want them to slow down and feel easier than what it is during practice.”
📈 MORNING STAT
In Single-A, Willits had 57 hits through 47 games.
