Welcome to the Morning Briefing! Richard here; Hayden has the day off. Last night, the Nationals kicked off their homestand with a loss against the New York Mets.

Leading this Morning Briefing: Nationals kick off a seven-game homestand with a loss against the Mets.

The Washington Nationals kicked off a seven-game homestand last night and will host two straight divisional series: a three-game set against the New York Mets and a four-game series against the Atlanta Braves.

Last night, the Nationals were unable to mount a comeback in the late innings and were defeated by the struggling New York Mets 8-7. I will not take up any time on what happened last night. You can read Mine and Kelsey Tucker’s game recap of last night’s game here.

Tonight, the Washington Nationals will continue their series against the Mets and will send the un-defeated RHP Trevor Williams to the mound to face the Mets and the Nationals will be facing LHP David Peterson. I will have tonight’s game notes up and in inboxes at least two hours before the first pitch.

There were a slew of injury updates as a bunch of players are making their way back from injury. Here are the latest:

  • According to reports, RHP Josiah Gray will throw to live hitters Tuesday for the third time in recent weeks, building up to three simulated innings and 50 pitches. This might be his last simulated outing before heading to the minor leagues to start his rehab.

  • Once again, both CJ Abrams and Jacob Young are out of the Nationals lineup, leaving the team shorthanded once again with two regulars dealing with injuries. CJ Abrams jammed his left shoulder making a diving play at shortstop Friday night, and Jacob Young, who took a pitch off his right hand Saturday afternoon in Cleveland, is working his way back to the lineup.

  • The Washington Nationals' top prospect, James Wood, has been cleared to do light baseball activities as he works his way from the hamstring tightness that landed him on the 7-day IL.
