Washington D.C. — The Washington Nationals returned home tonight to face the New York Mets and lost 8-7 after nearly coming back in the final inning.

The Nationals record now stands at 27-32, with an at-home record of 10-14 for the season.

LHP MacKenzie Gore started for the Nationals and went 4.1 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits. He struck out two and threw 92 pitches, 58 of them being strikes. He faced 24 batters this evening. Gore got the loss, and his record is now 4-5 with a 3.75 ERA.

The Washington Nationals bullpen was once again impressive. RHP Dylan Floro, RHP Jacob Barnes, and RHP Jordan Weems combined for two runs and four hits tonight.

On the offensive side of the ball, Joey Gallo hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth off Tylor Megill. Jesse Winker had two RBIs this evening.

Catcher Drew Millas, who was just called up from Rochester yesterday, was behind the plate for the Nationals tonight and went 0-3. The Nationals entered the final inning of the game behind 8-5 and pulled within a run in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a Joey Meneses sac-fly and an RBI single by Jesse Winker, but couldn’t pull it off in the end.

The Nationals went 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

Next, the Washington Nationals will continue their series against the New York Mets and send the undefeated RHP Trevor Williams (5-0, 2.22) to the mound in hopes of remaining undefeated. The Mets will send LHP David Peterson (0-3; 3.60 ERA) to the mound.
