JUPITER, FL - The Washington Nationals defeated the Miami Marlins 14-7 today. The Nationals scored 14 runs on 14 hits, while the Marlins scored seven on 10 hits and committed three errors. The Nationals improved their spring training record to 3-0 with today’s win.
The Nationals got off to a quick 3-0 start in the top of the first thanks to RBIs from Josh Bell, Alex Call, and a wild pitch from the Marlins starter Edward Cabrera scoring Josh Bell. Bell kicked off the scoring with an RBI single on a line drive to center fielder Derek Hill, scoring red-hot Dylan Crews, who led off the game with a single. Alex Call drove in newly acquired Paul DeJong with an RBI double on a fly ball to right fielder Griffin Conine.
The Nationals pulled ahead of the Marlins in the top of the fifth thanks to a Jacob Young solo homerun that traveled 365 feet to center-field, his first of the season, and additional RBIs from Paul DeJong and Josh Bell.
Dylan Crews recorded another stolen base in the top of the fifth, which allowed him to score from second base thanks to an RBI single from Paul DeJong.
Josh Bell finished the day 1-3 with one RBI and is now hitting .429 over seven at-bats. Bell has two RBI over the past three games since returing to the Nationals.
The Nationals broke things open in the top of the sixth by scoring six runs thanks to a two-run homerun by Robert Hassell III, RBI from Darren Baker, Andrés Chaparro and Brady House.
Robert Hassell III hit his first home run of Spring Training in the top of the six, which broke the game wide-open for the Nationals, scoring fellow Nationals prospect Brady House. Hassell III has been extremely hot in the first three games of the season and is now batting .444 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base with nine at-bats. He has an OPS of 1.444. Hassell III entered today’s game 3-6 with three RBI.

Today saw the first appearance of RHP Trevor Williams of 2025 after a rocky 2024. Williams pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two runs on one hit, striking out one, walking one, and giving up a two-run home run to newly acquired Marlins shortstop Matt Mervis, who was traded from the Chicago Cubs in October. Williams faced eight batters and threw 23 pitches 16 of them being strikes. Williams’ 23 pitches were more than the previous starters from the past two games.
Evan Reifert and lefty Colin Poche also made their Spring Training debut this afternoon. Reifert pitched 1.0 inning, striking out the side and throwing 16 pitches, nine of which were strikes. Other pitchers that pitched this afternoon were Joan Adon (1.0 innings, 0 k, 1 BB, 0 H, 0 R); right-handed pitcher Zach Brzkcy (0.2 innings, 2 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR); right-handed pitcher Cole Henry, Clay Helvey, and Andry Lara closing out the game.

The Washington Nationals will return to CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, FL, and will host the Houston Astros for the second time this spring. Left-handed pitcher DJ Herz is scheduled to get the start for the Nationals, while left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez of the Astros is. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM EST.
In other news, during today’s game, Robert Murry of Fanside.com reported that the Washington Nationals have agreed to a one-year contract with reliever Kyle Finnegan, securing a return to a very important piece for the Nationals bullpen.
