The Washington Nationals Outfield: A 2025 Preview Worth Getting Excited About

The 2025 Nationals outfield lineup: James Wood (left), Jacob Young (center), Dylan Crews (right), with Alex Call as the clutch backup.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - We’re deep into Spring Training 2025, and as we quickly approach Opening Day, the Nationals outfield is grabbing everyone’s attention. James Wood, Dylan Crews, Jacob Young, and Alex Call are lighting it up in camp, teasing a 2025 season that could be a game-changer for Washington.

Let’s dive into what the Washington Nationals outfield might deliver when the real games start.

Take James Wood, for starters. The guy’s 6-foot-7 and plays like he was built in a lab—except he’s real, and he showed up big-time in 2024. He debuted July 1 and hit .264 with nine homers, 13 doubles, and four triples over 79 games, plus he snagged 14 bags. Late in the season, he went off, popping four homers in a 13-game stretch that had everyone talking. The stats back it up, too—52% of his hits were crushed, averaging 92.8 mph off the bat, and he walked 11.6% of the time, which is nuts for a 22-year-old. Spring Training this year? He’s already got two dingers, including a sweet opposite-field shot against the Mets on March 7, even after shaking off some quad tendinitis. “We’re all just ready to grow together, and I think we’ll surprise some people,” he told MLB Network on February 26. If he can tighten up his defense—he was -6 OAA last year—and figure out lefties, we’re talking 25 homers and 25 steals, easy. That’s the kind of spark the Nationals need.
