WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- Ten-year Major League veteran and two-time All-Star right-hander Miles Mikolas reported to Nationals camp Thursday, his first official day since signing a one-year deal yesterday.

Mikolas spent the morning meeting teammates, coaches, and staff before taking questions from the media. He said joining a young, talented roster and working under a new front office was a major draw, noting that he “saw a chance to get in on the ground floor with a young group of guys.” Having faced Washington the past few years, he said he’s been impressed by the team’s potential. “They’ve got tons of talent,” Mikolas said. “This is a team that can really surprise people—a team that’s going to be really fun.”

The 37-year-old added that he expects a two-way exchange of knowledge with his new teammates. “The way the game is changing so much, I think I have a lot to learn from some of the young guys,” he said, “and I’ll be able to share some of the stuff I’ve learned over my career with them.”
