In a bit of a strange move, the Nationals traded pitching prospect Sean Paul Linan to the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Jorbit Vivas. The decision to trade a prospect for Vivas, who had no minor league options remaining and was expected to be placed on waivers, is a bit of an interesting choice.
Clearly, the Nationals believe there is something in Vivas’s game that makes it worth ensuring he made it to DC. So lets take a look at who Vivas is as a player and what the Nationals may see in him.
Jorbit Vivas is a 25-year-old second/third baseman who is known for his ability to generate contact. Originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in International Free Agency, he was traded to the Yankees before the 2024 season. In 2025, Vivas made his MLB debut, playing 29 games, though not finding much success with a 52 wRC+.


In the minors, Vivas excelled with his ability to make contact with just about any pitch. With 97th percentile whiff and zone contact rates and a 99th percentile K% in AAA. More impressively, Vivas manages to do this without expanding the zone, with a very good 22.9% chase rate. This gives Vivas an intriguing floor with
