WILMINGTON, DE (9/1/26) — The Wilmington Blue Rocks lost to the Frederick Keys 7-2 Friday night at Frawley Stadium, winning the second game of Friday’s doubleheader.
Wilmington falls to 64-61 overall and 33-27 in the second half. Frederick improves to 64-60 overall and 34-26 in the second half.
Tuesday’s series opener ended in five innings due to inclement weather. There was a weather delay that started at 8:20 p.m. and the game was officially called at 8:55 p.m.
Before the delay the Blue Rocks offense started off hot. Jacob Walsh opened his night with a two-run blast in the second inning. In the same inning Eli Willits smashed an RBI-triple off the right field fence that scored Teo Banks take take the Blue Rocks lead to 3-0 by the end of the second.
Walsh, coming off an South Atlantic Player of the week series against Jersey, is just one homerun away from being the first Blue Rocks to hit 20 homers since John Whittleman in 2005.
The lead extended in the third when Jacob Walsh brought home another pair on a RBI single and the Rocks led 4-0 into the fourth.
Then before the tarp came on the field Ronny Cruz added one more run for good measure with an RBI-double which was plenty more than Blue Rocks needed to take the win.
It was another Bullpen game for manager Ted Tom and crew. Austin Amaral started Wilmington off nice providing two no-hit innings before Bryan Polanco took over in the third. Polanco found himself with bases loaded in the top of the fifth but he escaped after striking out Dean Toigo.
Polanco finished with three and two third scoreless frames, allowing two hits, three walks, but he struck out four to help the Blue Rocks keep their shutout (albeit it was five innings).
Hudson Valley had a tough day at the office. Renegades starter Luis Serna threw four innings allowing six runs, on eight hits and four walks. Serna did strike out five batters but it wasn’t enough to keep the Wilmington offense at bay. The Renegades offense mustered zero runs, two hits, and six walks.
The Blue Rocks are slated to play tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Riley Maddox is the probable starter for Wilmington.
