Fredericksburg, VA - On a beautiful night in Fredericksburg, VA, the Fredericksburg Nationals got shut out against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, 4-0.

Last night, the two teams faced off, and the Fredericksburg Nationals made sure that the Woodpeckers didn’t have a chance to win the game by scoring 16 runs.

However, tonight, the Fredericksburg Nationals were un-able to score any runs and only managed to get two hits the whole entire night.

RHP Jose Atencio started tonight’s game for the Fredericksburg Nationals. He made his third appearance of 2024, but his first start for the season. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking zero batters. Atencio faced 21 batters in the game.

Some nice defensive plays by the Fredericksburg Nationals kept the game close, however, they were un-able to break though. The first one came in the top of the second when Alberto Hernandez singled on a ground ball to left fielder Brenner Cox, and Woodpecker’s Xavier Casserilla was thrown out at home by an impressive throw from left fielder Brenner Cox to catcher Jose Colmenares to get Casserilla out at home.

Another defensive play when Woodpeckers’ Alberto Hernandez lined out to a diving second baseman Everett Cooper III in the top of the fourth to help the Fredericksburg Nationals keep the score close.

However, the Fredericksburg Nationals were un-able to score any runs and lost the game. Their record is now 7-5 heading into the weekend.

Next, the Fredericksburg Nationals will continue their homestand against the Woodpeckers tomorrow night. They will send RHP Jarlin Susana (0-1, 4.50 ERA) to the mound, and the Woodpeckers will send RHP Alain Peña (1-0, 2.45 ERA).
