Flushing, NY - The Washington Nationals lost this afternoon against the New York Mets, 0-7. With today’s loss, the Nationals got swept in their series against the Mets and are now 42-52 overall.

Looking for better results this weekend, Washington will travel to Milwaukee for a series against the Brewers. The Nationals are in a stretch of 17 straight games—that started on June 28 at Tampa Bay—without a day off leading to the All-Star break.

The Nationals now have a 22-28 record on the road, 16-15 against teams in the N.L. East, and 26-33 against other N.L. teams.

This afternoon, the Nationals sent LHP MacKenzie Gore to the mound; however, Gore struggled. He pitched only 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on three hits, striking out only three and walking four. Gore threw 95 pitches, 59 strikes, and faced 20 batters. Gore now has a 6-8 record as he got the loss for the team.

The Nationals didn’t score any runs on their nine hits and committed one error. Washington was 1-12 with runners in scoring position this afternoon and left 13 on base. James Wood recorded a hit in today’s game as he went 1-5 with two strikeouts. Also checking in today with two hits was Lane Thomas, who went 2-2, and first baseman Juan Yepez went 1-2 with his fourth double of the season. Yepez has a batting average of .308, with five strikeouts and two RBI since being called up to the Nationals.

The three games in Milwaukee remain before the All-Star break to try to end this first half on a high note.

Tomorrow’s Pitching Matchup

As we reported today, the Washington Nationals will send RHP Jackson Rutledge to the mound in a spot start. [X Link] In his previous start with the Rochester Red Wings on July 5th against the Buffalo Bisons, Jackson Rutledge allowed two earned runs on seven hits across 4.1 innings while striking out four and walking four.

The Brewers will send RHP Freddy Peralta (6-4, 3.95) to the mound to face the Washington Nationals.

RHP Freddy Peralta will be making his 19th start of the season. Peralta started against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Saturday and received no decision in the Brewers’ 5-3 loss (4IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR). The Brewers are 12-6 in his starts.

Peralta has seven quality starts, and opponents are batting .213 (77-for-361, 13hr). Peralta is 3-2 with a 6.67 ERA in 6 career games/4 starts vs. Washington (27 IP, 26 H, 20 R, 20 ER, 11 BB, 28 K, 4 HR). Peralta earned a 6-4 win in his only start against the Nationals last season, coming on 8/1 at Nationals Park (6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 k).
