Game Notes Highlights

  • Red Hot Fredericksburg Nationals.  The Fredericksburg Nationals are finishing their best month of the 2023 regular season so far. Heading into tonight’s game, the Fredericksburg Nationals are 18-8 this month have outscored the opponents 180 to 136, and have a team OPS of .758 and a team ERA of 4.31, which is the best month of the season for the pitching staff.
  • Climbing to the top. With 11 games remaining in the regular season, the chase for the 2nd half championship in the Carolina League North Division is on. The FredNats come into play today in second place in the division, 2.0 games behind first-place Carolina and a half-game ahead of third-place Lynchburg. Fredericksburg still has four games left against Lynchburg and seven against Delmarva. Last year in early September the Fredericksburg Nationals clinched the second-half championship and will look to return to the Carolina League playoff for the second straight year.
  • Don’t MAX out.  Washington Nationals prospect Max Romero Jr. hit two home runs in Tuesday night’s game for the first multi-homer game of his professional career. Romero Jr. now has two walk-off home runs this month, which according to him are the first two walk-off homers of his life. Since returning from the injured list on June 23, Romero is hitting a .310/.442/.492 for an OPS of .934.

On the bump for the Fredericksburg Nationals

LHP and 2023 Washington Nationals draft pick Liam Sullivan is making his fourth start for the Fredericksburg Nationals tonight, against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Liam was taken out of the University of Georgia.

Last time out. Liam Sullivan pitched three solid innings in a start at Salem last week. Liam allowed just a pair of base hits, but one of those was a two-run home run that accounted for both of his earned runs.
