Tonight, the Washington Nationals look to bounce back from a 6-1 loss against the Miami Marlins. The Nationals will continue their nine-game, 11-day homestand by sending RHP Jake Irvin to the mound.

  • The Boys are Back in Town. The Washington Nationals continue their nine-game, 11-day homestand tonight against the Miami Marlins. Despite the loss on Thursday, the Nationals are 16–5 (.762) at home since July 8, the best home record in Major League Baseball.

  • Leadoff magic. Since being moved to the lead-off spot, Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams is hitting  .271/.321/.422 with six doubles, a triple, seven homers, 16 RBI, nine walks, six hit by pitch, 27 stolen bases and 32 runs scored. His 27 stolen bases since moving to the leadoff spot is the most in Major League Baseball ahead of Ronald Acuna Jr.

On the bump for the Nationals: RHP Jake Irvin

RHP Jake Irvin enters tonight with a record of 3-5 and an ERA of 4.30. During the 2023 season, Irvin has already logged 102.2 innings and striking out 84. In the last 15 games, Irvin has gone 2-3 with an ERA of 4.02, striking out 65 and giving up 82 hits.

Previous start. In Irvin’s previous start which was also against the Marlins on August 26, 2023, the right-hander pitched six innings, giving up four hits and one earned run. Irvin struck out three and walked three during that outing in Miami.

Career against Miami. Irvin is 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA (2 ER/11.0 IP) with seven strikeouts in his two career appearances against the Marlins this season.
