Game Story Line

The Washington Nationals will welcome the New York Mets to Washington D.C. for a two-game series starting tonight for the first time since May.

Game Highlights

  • NEW YORK METS WHO?. The Washington Nationals last faced the New York Mets at the end of July, where they lost two out of the three-game series in New York. The last time the New York Mets were in Washington D.C. was back in May, when they split the series.

  • HOME-COOKING. The Washington Nationals take on the New York Mets in their final series of the 2023 season starting Tuesday night. If the Nationals sweep the Mets, they will claim their first season series over the Mets since 2020 when they went 6–5. The Nationals are 16–8 at home since July 8, tied for the second-best home record in Major League Baseball.

  • FOREVER YOUNG. I WANT TO BE FOREVER YOUNG. Since the Nationals selected Jacob Young's contract on August 26th and making his MLB debut he has started in every game since August 27. Young has also reached base safely in all eight games and has hit safely in six straight games with the Nationals.

  • COME ON RIDE THE TRAIN, THE LANE TRAIN. Outfielder Lane Thomas has homered in three straight games for the first time in his career, which is one homerun short of the longest home run streak in Nationals history (four games, done four times.) The last time a Washington Nationals hit four home runs in four games was Bryce Harper from April 14-17, 2016.

    • Additionally, Thomas is 7-13 hitting three home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored over his last three games. Thomas also ranks 5th in hits (153), tied for 7 in doubles (32), 8th in runs (91), and 9th in batting average (.285)

On the bump for the Nationals: LHP Patrick Corbin

LHP Patrick Corbin enters tonight’s game against the Mets with a record of 9-12 and an ERA of 4.90. Patrick Corbin makes his first start at Nationals Park since August 17, when he allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings to defeat the Boston Red Sox.

Since joining the Nationals back in 2019, Patrick Corbin is 34-4 with a 2.70 ERA over 42 starts when he pitches at least 6.0 innings and receives at least three runs of support.

Previous start. Corbin went 5.0 innings allowing six earned runs on 10 hits, walked one, and struck out five batters on August 30, 2023, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Career against the Mets. LHP Patrick Corbin faces the New York Mets for the third time this season. Corbin is 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA over 11.2 innings pitched. Corbin is 8-10 with a 4.48 ERA in his career against the New York Mets. He is 4-4 at Nationals Park and 4-6 at Citi Field.
