Welcome Home: The 2024 season marks the first time since 2018 that the Nationals opened the season on the road before returning to Nationals Park. From 2019 to 2023, the Nationals opened the season home before heading out on the road.
Not off to a good start: In their first home game of the 2024 season, the Washington Nationals lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4. LHP MacKenzie Gore got his first opening day start and first start of the 2024 season. Gore gave up three earned runs on five hits. He pitched 5.1 innings, struck out six, and will start the season with an ERA of 5.06 and a WHIP of 1.31. He didn’t get the loss yesterday, so his record remains 0-0 after yesterday’s game.
On the offensive side of the ball, Catcher Riely Adams hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, his first home run of the 2024 season, which briefly tied up the game.
Oppo Research. The Washington Nationals will face RHP Mitch Keller in his first start of the 2024 season. Last year, the Nationals faced Keller on September 14, 2023, when the right-hander pitched eight innings and gave up two hits and no runs. He struck out seven, walked one, and faced 27 batters.
