Game Story Line

The Washington Nationals will continue their final home stand of the 2023 tonight as they face the Chicago White Sox. The Nationals will send RHP Jackson Rutledge to the mound in his Nationals Park debut while the Chicago White Sox will be sending RHP José Ureña.

Game Highlights

  • WELCOME HOME JACKSON RUTLEDGE. Tonight, the 2019 first-round pick RHP Jackson Rutledge will make his Nats Park debut. Rutledge went 8-4 with a 3.71 ERA (49 ER/ 119.0 IP) in 23 Minor League starts with Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Harrisburg this season...He opened the season with Double-A Harrisburg where he went 6-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 12 starts...He struck out 62 batters while posting a .209 opponent batting average.

    • Rutledge was promoted to Triple-A Rochester on June 27, 202,3, and went 2-3 with a 4.44 ERA in 11 starts for the Red Wings. In his last start with the Red Wings on Sept. 1 vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY), Rutledge pitched 5.0 innings of two-hit, shutout ball with seven strikeouts. He ranks second among Nationals Minor Leaguers in opponents’ average (.227), tied for third for wins (8), in third for ERA (3.71), fourth in strikeouts (106), and is in fourth in walks and hits per innings pitched (1.27) this season.

  • TO THE 10TH INNING AND BEYOND. The Washington Nationals are 6-2 (.750) when games go into extra innings this season which is the fourth-best winning percentage in Major League Baseball and the third-best in Nationals history. Additionally, the Nationals are 25-20 with a winning percentage of .556 in one-run games which ranks fourth-best in team history and is behind the 2017 Washington Nationals (30-21; .588)

  • COME ALONG FOR THE RIDE ON THE LANE TRAIN. Outfielder Lane Thomas is tied for sixth in the National League with 34 doubles, eighth in total bases with 273, tied for tenth in extra-base hits with 63, and is tied for ninth in hits with 158.

  • THE RULING ON THE FIELD STANDS. The Washington Nationals lead Major League Baseball with a 73.1% overturn rate on challenges. Washington's replay operation is 19-for-26 in overturned challenges this season. The Nationals lead the:

    • Miami Marlins (20-for-28, 71.4%),

    • Arizona Diamondbacks (25-for-38, 65.8%),

    • Kansas City Royals (20-for-31, 64.5%),

    • New York Yankees (17-for-27, 63.0%) and

    • Houston Astros (17-for-27, 63.0%).

On the bump for the Nationals: RHP Jackson Rutledge

RHP Jackson Rutledge enters tonight’s game with a 0-1 record and a 17.18 ERA. He will be making his home debut at Nats Park tonight.

In his last start. Jackson Rutledge in his last start against the Pittsburg Pirates on September 13th, allowed seven earned runs on ten hits, walked one, and struck out two over 3.2 innings of work. He got the loss for the game.

This will be Rutledge’s first career start against the Chicago White Sox.
