Game Story Line

The Washington Nationals will finish up the 2023 season with a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves which kicks off tonight in Atlanta. The Nationals will send RHP Trevor Williams to the mound tonight, while the Braves will send RHP Allan Winans to face the Nationals.

Game Highlights

YEAR OVER YEAR. With only three games to play left in the 2023 season to play, the Washington Nationals have already posted the second-best season-to-season win improvement in team history. The only other Washington Nationals team to win more games in the team’s previous season was the 2012 Washington Nationals. Additionally, the Nationals also improved year over year in one-run games.

WILLIMAS SINCE THE BREAK. Since the All-Star break, RHP Trevor Williams has pitched to a 4.18 ERA over 82 games with 57 starts. Additionally, Williams opened the 2023 season by going 1-1 with an ERA of 3.38 ERA. He struck out 13 and just walked four over his first four starts of the season.

RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION.  Joey Meneses who ranks 4th, and Keibert Ruiz who ranks 5th in the National League in batting average with runners in scoring position this season. Additionally, Joey Meneses’ 59 hits with RISP is the most in Major League Baseball.

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call ranks 10th among MLB outfielders with 9 outs above average and is tied for third among all NL outfielders with five defensive runs saved. Call also leads the Washington Nationals with a total of 52 walks and is 33-for-132 (.250) with 7 2B, 4 HR, 13 RBI, and 21 BB vs. left-handed pitching.

On the bump for the Nationals: RHP Trevor Williams

RHP Trevor Williams enters tonight’s game with a 6-10 record and a 5.55 ERA.

In his last start. RHP Trevor Williams in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers on September 16th, allowed three earned runs on five hits, walked two and struck out one over 2.0 innings of work.

vs Atlanta. Williams will face the Braves for the second time this season. In his first game against the Braves, Willims allowed two earned runs on seven hits, walked one, and struck out six batters in 5.0 innings to earn the win on June 11.
