Game Story Line

The Washington Nationals will kick off a weekend series against the 1st place in the NL Central Milwaukee Brewers. The Washington Nationals will send RHP Jake Irvin to the mount who is in search of his fourth win of the season. The last time the Nationals faced the Milwaukee Brewers on July 31-August 2nd, the Nationals won two out of three.

Game Highlights

  • LEADING OFF. Since moving the leadoff spot, shortstop CJ Abrams is showing his speed and the use of his bat. Abrams is 8-for-25 (.320) with a triple, three homers, six RBI, six walks, three stolen bases, and seven runs scored in his last seven games. CJ has reached safely in his last eight games (8 H, 7 BB). Additionally, his 30 stolen bases is the most in the Majors and is even ahead of Ronald Acuña Jr.

  • ON THE ROAD AGAIN. Despite being swept by the Pittsburg Pirates, the Washington Nationals are .500 (11-11) in its last 22 road games since July 29. Also, Thursday’s game lasted just one hour and 50 minutes and is considered the shortest 9.0-inning game in Washington Nationals history.

  • WHAT A RELIEF. The Washington Nationals bullpen has been pretty good over the past few games. Nationals south-paw relief pitcher Jose A. Ferrer has pitched to a 0.00 ERA with an opponent’s average of .120 over his last nine innings of work. Jose A. Ferrer has only issued two walks and has struck out 12 over the last 15.2 innings pitched.

  • UNIFORM BLUE(S). The Washington Nationals have the most wins while wearing thier blue alternate jersey. They are 24-27 when wearing alternate blue jerseys. The Nationals are 16-21 (second most wins) when they wear thier road grays. Here are the the team’s number of wins while wearing the various jerseys so far this season (in order of number of wins):

On the bump for the Nationals: RHP Jake Irvin

RHP Jake Irvin enters tonight’s game against the Brewers with a record of 3-5 and an ERA of 4.20. So far this season, Irvin has pitched a total of 113.2 innings, striking out 92, and has a WHIP of 1.35.

Over the past seven games, Irvin has pitched a total of 39.1 innings, striking out 32, walking 14, and giving up 12 earned runs on 34 hits earning him a 2.75 ERA.

In his last start. Jake Irvin in his last start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 9th, allowed one earned run on three hits, walked two, and struck out four over six innings of work. However, He took a no-decision in the Nationals’ 7-6 victory.

vs. MILWAUKEE Irvin last faced the Brewers on July 31, where he allowed two earned runs on six hits, walked two, and struck out two hitters in Washington’s  5-3 victory.
