Game Story Line & Notes
The Nationals will finish their West Coast swing tonight as they kick off a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Last time out.
The Washington Nationals lost their series finale against the Oakland A’s in a heartbreaking way. Reliever RHP Derek Law gave up six runs in the bottom of the sixth after the Nationals took a 6-1 lead in the top of the sixth.
Welcome to the Show. LHP Mitchell Parker will make his Major League Debut tonight against an impressive Dodgers lineup that includes Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, and Mookie Betts, just to name a few players.
Jackie Robinson Day. Today, all team players, coaches, managers, and umpires will wear Robinson’s uniform number 42 to honor and celebrate the legacy of Jackie Robinson. On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson made history by becoming the first African American to play Major League Baseball. Robinson started at first base and went hitless but reached base on an error in the seventh and scored the eventual go-ahead run in a victory against the Boston Braves.
Robinson won the first-ever Rookie of the Year Award in 1947 and finished fifth in the MVP voting. In 151 games, Robinson had 12 home runs, 48 RBI, 175 hits, a .297 average, and 29 stolen bases, leading the league with 29.
Welcome Back. Catcher Drew Millas is rejoining the Washington Nationals in California, as catcher Kiebert Ruiz is still sick and has been placed on the 10-day IL. Millas appeared earlier for the Nationals during this current West Coast swing.
Roster Moves. This afternoon, the Washington Nationals announced the following moves before tonight’s game:
Recalled left-handed pitcher Mitchell Parker from Triple-A Rochester.
Recalled catcher Drew Millas from Triple-A Rochester.
