Fredericksburg Nationals Story Line

After dropping four out of five games at home to Delmarva and falling to six games below .500, the Fredericksburg Nationals will try to get back on track on the road this week in Lynchburg when they face the Hillcats.

The FredNats beat the Cleveland Guardian-affiliated Lynchburg team in two out of three games on Opening Weekend at Virginia Credit Union Stadium a couple of weeks ago.

What you need to know

  • In two out of the four wins so far for the FredNats, the team has trailed with two outs in the last inning. One of those games was against Lynchburg on Opening Weekend when Daylen Lile hit a game-tying single in the 10th inning which was followed up by Elijah Green’s walk-off single. Johnathon Thomas hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the 9th inning last Sunday in Fayetteville to give the FredNats the win that day.
  • ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fredericksburg Nationals led 3-1 in the 6th inning before the Delmarva Shorebirds took a 5-3 lead in the 7th inning. Daylen Lile hit a game-tying two-run homer in the 7th to level the game at 5, but the Shorebirds hit a two-run home run in the top of the 8th inning and added an insurance run in the 9th inning against the FredNat bullpen to escape with an 8-5 win.
  • Washington Nationals second-round pick Daylen Lile has been very solid in his return to the lineup in 2023. Lile missed all of last season with Tommy John surgery, and so far in 2023, he’s slashing .333/.444/.600 for an OPS of 1.044. He also carries a six-game hitting streak into the series with the Hillcats. Lile also hit his first home run of the season on Sunday against Delmarva - a game-tying two-run shot in the 7th inning.
  • Sammy Infante is off to a strong start in 2023 after spending all of last year in Fredericksburg as well. He’s hit two home runs, and slashed .348/.436/.543 for an OPS of .979. He has a seven-game hitting streak coming into this week’s series.
