Game Recap: Rochester Red Wings win five in a row; beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5-1

The Rochester Red Wings have now won five straight after their 5-1 victory against the IronPigs Friday night at Frontier Field.

Rochester, NY - With the win last night, the Rochester Red Wings have now won five-straight games, a feat they last accomplished on May 15, which was the final five games of a nine-game win streak. This marks their second-longest winning streak, behind that nine-game stretch from May 7 to May 15.

Additionally, with the win, the Rochester Red Wings have clinched a series victory against Lehigh Valley. This marks the first series win for Rochester since they beat Buffalo four games to two in their May 30 - June 5th series.

RAKE ALU: With a single in the first inning, 3B Jake Alu has reached base safely in 11-straight games dating back to 9/4 and has picked up multiple hits in six of those 11 games. The Boston College alum finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. During his on-base streak, Alu leads all Wings in hits (17), home runs (5), RBI (15), and runs scored (10).

Rehabbing LHP MacKenzie Gore made his second start with the Red Wings going 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and walking two while striking out two batters. Since being acquired in a trade, along with SS CJ Abrams, OF Robert Hassell III, RHP Jarlin Susan, and OF James Wood for Juan Soto and Josh Bell, Gore has pitched five scoreless innings for the Wings, allowing six hits and walking two, while striking out two batters.

The Wings brought in RHP Connor Sadzeck to finish the game in the ninth. In his return to the line-up, Nick Banks picked up where he left off, going 2-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored, extending his on-base streak to 13 games.

The Wings look to win their sixth consecutive game Saturday night at 6:05 pm. They’ll send RHP Logan Verrett (7-9) to the bump for a start.​
