The Rochester Red Wings dropped their seventh consecutive game Wednesday night, 7-4, in front of the largest home Wednesday-night crowd since July 31, 2019. RHP Cade Cavalli pitched five scoreless innings in his start while striking out three batters in the process.

RHP Cade Cavalli went five scoreless innings while recording his 250th career strikeout and 100th in a Wings' uniform. Cavalli, the Nationals' top prospect, has not given up an earned run in July, going 15.2 scoreless innings over three starts.

OF Josh Palacios extended his hitting streak to 16 games and his on-base streak to 29 games following a sixth-inning single.

1B Joey Meneses hit his first triple of the year and scored after OF David Dahl hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 3-0. Rochester gave up five runs in the seventh and could not rally, dropping game two against Scranton.

Cavalli has a chance to be the first Rochester Red Wing to win International League Pitcher of the Month since LHP Francisco Liriano in 2008. The righty has started 16 games this season with a 1.90 ERA (42.2 IP/9 ER) in his last eight starts, along with 3.53 K/BB (46 K/13 BB).

Up next:

RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon will make his Red Wings debut in today's matchup with Scranton. Ponce de Leon posted a 7.95 ERA (71.1IP/63 ER) in the Pacific Coast League this year but has a 2.60 ERA (93.1 IP/27 ER) in the International League since 2019.

The former St. Louis Cardinals draft pick has pitched 147.2 innings spanning four Big League seasons and has a 4.33 ERA in his MLB career.
