What to Watch

Today' the Washington Nationals will kick off thier Spring Training season against the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:05 pm EST in Jupiter, FL.

Day off for Juan Soto: Juan Soto isn't in the lineup for the first Spring According to Dave Martinez Soto will make his Spring Training debut tomorrow at "home" when the Nationals play the Houston Astros.

Rule Changes to be aware of

The teams had the option of shortening the game to five or seven innings, the Nationals and Cardinals agreed to play the full nine.

They can, however, elect to end a half-inning before three outs are recorded if a pitcher has thrown more than 20 pitches. Don’t be surprised if there are a few roll-over innings as a result.

Leading off: Victor Robles is leading off today for the Nationals could this be something that we see more of in the future? [Read our article about why it makes sense here]

Resvered Players: We are wondering who will play the whole game and which players are going to come off the bench? Could we see Parra off the bench later in the game? Zimmerman??

Pitching: How many innings will Fedde pitch and who is going to replace him and who might close out the game? Per Mark Zuckerman the following pitchers are avialable to pitch today following Fedde,

McFarland, Harper, Braymer, McGowin, Adon, Clay, Eppler and Klobosits.

Additionally, Voth will be the starter tomorrow vs. the Astros. Seth Romero will throw live BP on Tuesday. Vetern starters such as Strasburg, Lester and Corbin are "still bulding up and likely to start soon" per Dave Martinez

Max Scherzer Update: Scherzer continues to recover from a left ankle sprain, and he threw a second bullpen session this week without any issues Friday. Manager Dave Martinez said the next step in Scherzer's rehab is yet to be determined. What is known is that Scherzer will have a scaled-back start to Spring Training after spraining the ankle in early February while running and doing conditioning drills. The 36-year-old righty felt discomfort when attempting to throw his first bullpen session following the injury, so the club decided to take a cautious approach to his preparation in the early going.
