Nationals improve to 9-8 with a win over the New York Mets.

The Washington Nationals put together another spring training win with another impressive start from LHP Mackenzie Gore.

West Palm Beach, FL - The Nationals continued their winning this week by beating the New York Mets 4-1.  The Nationals are now 9-8 in spring training action.

In his latest outing tonight, LHP Mackenzie Gore was pretty impressive. Gore pitched 5.2 innings facing 20 batters and only giving up two hits and one run, striking out two lowering his ERA to an impressive spring training average of .1.69. Gore threw a total of 70 pitches, 39 of them being strikes.

Gore inducted seven ground-outs and five fly-outs during his outing this evening.

The Nationals’ pitching staff limited the New York Mets hitting to only two hits in the game. Getting the win for the Nationals, was LHP Joe La Sorsa (1-0; 1.59 ERA) La Sorsa has had 5.2 innings over six games of work during spring training with six strikeouts.

On the offensive side of the ledger, the Nationals were able to get seven hits and four runs.  A notable highlight was a triple by Trey Lipscomb in the bottom of the sixth scoring both James Wood (who was a pinch-runner for Joey Gallo) and Alex Call.   Also in the bottom of the six, Nick Senzel singled on a line drive to center fielder Rhylan Thomas driving home Joey Meneses who reached base on a fielder's choice earlier in the Nationals half of the inning.

Next up for the Washington Nationals: The Nationals will be facing the Miami Marlins game time is at 1:10 at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, FL. As of now, the starter for the Nationals will be RHP Jake Irvin (0-1; 8.22 ERA). The Marlins will send RHP Eury Pérez (1-1; 3.52 ERA).
