Fredericksburg VA - After narrowly coming up short in the first-half race in the Carolina League North, the Fredericksburg Nationals have won 3 out of the first 4 games in the second half to tie for the second-half divisional lead, including their 4th shutout of the season last night in an 8-0 win over Delmarva.

Tonight, LHP Dustin Saenz will try to deliver the FredNats their third straight win, which would be the longest winning streak in June, a month where the Frednats hold a 13-12 record. With last night’s win, the team improves to 5-8 in series openers and 4-6 against the Shorebirds.

Last night’s game was the first meeting between these two teams at Virginia Credit Union Stadium this year.

Game Notes

  • Lefty Dustin Saenz will look to continue his strong month since returning from the injured list. He’s pitched 7 innings of one-run ball in his last two starts since coming back after he missed a month with an injured ankle in his start at Delmarva on May 17 when covering home plate. The former Texas A&M Aggie was the Nationals’ 4th round draft pick in 2021. In his senior year at A&M in 2021, Saenz started 14 games with a 6-6 record, recording a 4.27 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 84.1 IP. Held a career ERA of 4.13 in College Station in 150.1 career innings of work.
  • With 2 more home runs last night, Sammy Infante has regained the Carolina League lead with 15 big flys on the season. He has also taken over the team lead in RBIs with 46, and Jeremy De La Rosa is right behind him at 45. Infante has hit 3 home runs in the last 2 games for the FredNats after not hitting one in June prior to Sunday’s game.
