Mike Rizzo just concluded his weekly interview with the Sports Junkies on 106.7 the fan. Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo offered insight and commentary on the Soto situation on Wednesday morning as part of a radio appearance on D.C.'s 1067 The Fan.

Here are a couple of interesting tidbits from the interview:

Significant interest in Juan Soto

Soto is 23 years old and has two additional years of team control after this season. There has been significant interest in trading for the Nationals super-star.

Soto has emerged as one of baseball's best hitters throughout his career, accumulating a .291/.426/.539 (159 OPS+) with 118 home runs in 560 big-league games. According to Baseball-Reference's calculations, his contributions have been worth an estimated 21 Wins Above Replacement.

According to Mike Rizzo, there have been "conversations with several teams that have a real interest in him," Rizzo said, "We're going to have to get the deal that we want … that gets us an opportunity to become a championship organization faster than not trading him."

Patrick Corbin contract and Juan Soto

There have been many rumors about tying Patrick Corbin to any Juan Soto deal, and it looks like, at least for now, GM Mike Rizzo isn't trying to package the struggling left-hander to a deal with Juan Soto.

Rizzo said: "We're not going to dilute a return for any player by adding a bad contract. We want to get the most for every trade that we do." This statement is contrary to what many Nationals insiders and what has been reported by Jeff Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat's reporting earlier Wednesday morning that stated talks between the Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals had ratcheted up. According to Jones, Corbin and Cardinals rookie infielder Nolan Gorman are possible components of the trade.

From the looks of it, unfortunately, Juan Soto's time in a Washington Nationals uniform might be coming to end.

More to come...
