As previously reported, today Major League Baseball presented a proposal to the Players Union in hopes to jump-start talks to avoid a delayed start to the 2022 Baseball season. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the proposal that was submitted was "not positive," which puts imperil the start time of spring training in February and also the regular season.

This isn't a good sign, however, today's meeting ended a 42-day break in negotiations, that dates back to December 1, 2021, when a brief session was held and then broke off hours before the collective bargaining agreement expired the next day. As Passan notes, neither side expected a deal to be struck on Thursday, however, the question now becomes how soon will the MLBPA counter the MLB proposal.

According to Jon Heyman, Insider at MLB Network, the Major League proposal "raised pay for younger players (higher minimum salary and more money for Super 2s)," however, the "Players union saw overall offer as “disappointing.” [Tweet Link].

Spring training is scheduled to start on Feb. 16 in Florida and Arizona, and Opening Day is set for March 31.
