Late in 2020, the Miami Marlins made some history by hiring the first-ever women GM Kim Ng, now the Boston Red Sox's are making their own history and are reportedly hiring the the first black women to coach in Pro Baseball History.

According to reports by the Boston Globe, the Red Sox's are planning on hiring the first black woman to coach in pro history: Bianca Smith. According to the Boston Globe, "Smith, 29, will work with the minor league players in Fort Myers, Fla., and her focus will mainly involve position players, a team official said."

In a statement, Red Sox vice president of player development Ben Crockett said to the Boston Globe: "She was a great candidate coming in... She's had some really interesting experiences and has been passionate about growing her skill set and development herself."

Smith has Major League Baseball experience going back to 2017 in two organizations. Smith worked for the Texas Rangers in their baseball operations department and spent time interning with the Cincinnati Reds baseball department. Currently, Smith serves as the assistant baseball coach and hitting coordinator at Carroll University in Wisconsin.
