Reporters Notebook from West Palm Beach: Behind the scenes at the Nats Report

Volume 1 Issue 9

There have been a lot of  headlines and news coming out of Spring Training, I have been busy writing our daily game recaps and creating many game lineups, I haven’t been good about writing in my reporters notebook. I will do my best to increase the amount of report notes.

For this week’s reporter notebook, I wanted to share some behind-the-scenes here at the Nats Report. Let’s see how this goes. And that is the subject of today’s Reporter’s Notebook.

Behind the Scenes at The Nats Report

I'm not claiming to be a groundbreaking reporter; you could say I'm more of a blogger. Nevertheless, following the Nationals and writing about them has been a truly enjoyable, albeit sometimes frustrating, experience.

For those new to the Nats Report, you might be wondering why I started this site. Well, here's the story:

After college, I relocated to Washington D.C., the same year the Nationals came to town. With few friends around, I attended numerous games at RFK Stadium, rekindling my passion for baseball, but this time as a Nationals fan.

Fast forward to 2019, during the playoffs, I found myself enthusiastically sharing the team's developments with my colleagues at work. I started sending them frequent emails about daily analyses and news, only to discover they were forwarding these updates to their fellow Nationals fans and family members. That's when the idea for the Nats Report struck me.

The Nats Report is a daily newsletter about the Washington Nationals, following the concept of the famous Politico Playbook. It aims to provide readers with essential information about the team every morning, offering insights, analyses, and the latest news to keep fans well-informed and engaged. Join us in starting your day with all things Washington Nationals.

I’ve head a lot of ups and downs with the Nats Report but, now it seems that we are off to a good pace and amount of content about the Nationals and the farm system.

So, you might ask yourself: Richard, what's behind the scenes? Well, here's the answer. It's become rare to find sports writers offering readers a glimpse into their personalities and histories. I want you to understand how much I value the newsletter's readership, and the team I've assembled is committed to providing you with excellent Nationals content—content not fueled by click-bait articles but genuine news. We're not just a major corporation trying to maximize ad revenue; every subscription enhances the newsletter.

For instance, thanks to you, my readers, we recently invested in a USA Today photo license account. This will enable us to provide you with high-quality imagery for the upcoming season. Sure, we'll make mistakes along the way, but when we achieve a goal, we'll shout it from the rooftops. I'm dedicated to giving you, my subscribers, the best Nationals experience. Your support helps us improve, and together, we're making the Nats Report something special.
