Before tonight’s game in San Francisco, the Washington Nationals announced that RHP Josiah Gray was placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to April 6.

This is the first time Gray will be placed on the IL in his career, and he has struggled a bit over his past two starts. In the two games he appeared in, he allowed 13 runs and 15 hits in 8 1/3 innings against the Reds and Pirates. Gray was also the Opening Day starter for the team when they faced the Cincinnati Reds in March.

According to Andrew Golden of the Washington Post, Gray said that “his strain is muscular. He is hopeful that with rest and rehab, the injury won’t keep him out too long. He felt off after his outing against the Pirates, tried throwing a bullpen and still didn’t feel like himself before he got an MRI.”

In 2023, Gray made 30 starts and pitched 159 innings, going 8-13 with a 3.91 ERA and earning his first All-Star selection.

More to come…
