Nats Continue to Make Strong Push Into Deadline
⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
The Nats are on a small road trip tear, winning 3 out of their 4 since the All-Star break thus far. If they are able to pick up the win today, they will also claim 2 straight series wins to come out of the All-Star break, continuing to power their momentum into the trade deadline, hopefully applying pressure on the Nats front office to buy rather than sell. If they do decide to go in on the team, Nats fans will have a resurgence, as the team will be in a position to push for their first playoff appearance since 2019.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Nats currently now sit at 51-50 on the year, back above the .500 mark. They are still on track to exceed their lackluster preseason expectations, and should even be in a good position to push for an NL Wild Card spot. Now sitting 8 games out of the NL East, 5 games outside of 2nd in the NL East and also, currently 1.5 games out of an NL wild card spot, they are in perfect position. If they can keep the main core in tact and acquire some bullpen arms, they are in prime position to break their 7 year playoff drought, and maybe even look to break their 9 year NL East champion one too.
Pertaining to the deadline, there is growing talk of the Nats shopping recent breakout player Luis Garcia Jr. While the Nats and their fans would hate to see a standout player like him go, crazily enough, selling a player of his caliber at the deadline might still mean there is hope for a playoff push. If the Nats front office is able to acquire some heavy-hitting bullpen arms for him, all of a sudden their sell becomes a very enticing buy. Keeping Luis Garcia Jr. is obviously ideal, it should be known that if we have to see him go at this deadline, we better get some great return value to gear the team up for a late playoff push.
Regardless of what fan-favorite Nats player we have to see go, GOOD bullpen arms must be acquired at the deadline for the Nats. Every fan knows how good the offense has been, putting up historical numbers from leading the MLB in runs per game, having 3 players with 20+ homers, and boasting all these numbers with the youngest average age in the league. With numbers like that, the Nats HAVE to have a better record than 1 game over .500. It all has started and ended with the bullpen, blowing 28 saves, leading the MLB in homers allowed, and many more stats that are on the wrong side of record breaking. If the Nats can’t have confidence when up runs going into the 7th-9th innings, there will be no hope for a later season playoff push. Some new arms is all it takes to change that confidence.

With the Nats blasting 3 homers in yesterday’s win, rookie manager Blake Butera went over how their bats have been able to stay so strong and consistent as the season pushes forward.
“A lot of it's just going about their business the same way and not trying to do anything differently,” Butera said pregame. “I think sometimes when you worry about that a little bit, it can change your approach – especially offensively – if you're trying to get the ball in the air maybe a little bit more because you know that the ball is flying better. So we're just trying to make sure these guys stay true to their plans.”

A mixture of a solid Andrew Alvarez outing, homers from 3 different Nats players, and holding onto a late game lead were all the Nats needed to get the first of 3 in their series against the Rockies. Winning the first puts the Nats in prime position today, needing just one more win today or tomorrow to claim their 2nd straight series, and possibly even chase their first sweep since April 12th. In a year of series wins, but no sweeps recently, a sweep could be exactly what the Nats need to get their 2nd half momentum going as they look to surge for a playoff run. Fingers crossed!

With all four Nationals minor league affiliates getting their rest day yesterday, the organization enters another week of baseball in dominating fashion. The farm system has continued to strongly push forward throughout the season, with every affiliate sitting above the .500 mark and two of them leading their respective divisions (Rochester and Fredericksburg). As the playoff push ensues, the Nationals continue to showcase one of the deepest and most productive farm systems in baseball.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Rochester Red Wings, Nats Triple-A affiliate, continue to lead the International League with a 56-38 record on the year and coming off their 3 game series sweep agains Jacksonville. Rochester has been fueled by consistent offensive production from players like Cayden Wallace and Yohandy Morales, while several players around them also continue pushing for opportunities at the major league level.
The Harrisburg Senators, Nats Double-A affiliate, sit at 45-43 after back-to-back victories for a series win over New Hampshire. Harrisburg has played some of its best baseball in recent weeks and continues to receive strong contributions from their blossoming prospects to watch like Caleb Lomavita and Sam Petersen.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks, Nats High-A affiliate, improved to 45-44 on the year before Monday's off day also picking up a 3 game sweep against Jersey Shore. Nats number one prospect and first overall pick Eli Willits continues adjusting to professional baseball, chasing his major league debut, while Yeremy Cabrera has remained one of Wilmington's most productive offensive players throughout the season.
The Fredericksburg Nationals, the Nats Single-A affiliate, continue to lead the Carolina League North with a 57-33 record on the year, despite Sunday's loss leading to a sweep. Headlined by one of Single-A’s most talented young rosters, the FredNats remain the stepping foundation for the Nationals extremely bright developmental success stories this season.

The Nationals' four minor league affiliates enter the week with a combined 203-164 record on the year, with every affiliate above .500 and two division leaders as the second half of the season continues onwards.
