Ted Leonsis Still Vying to Add Nationals to His DC Sports Portfolio

Washington D.C. Billionaire Ted Leonsis, owner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, made it clear that he still wants to add Major League Baseball’s Nationals to his collection of Washington sports franchises.

“Adding that team is really important to the business,” Leonsis said during an interview on Bloomberg TV on Thursday. “We own the winter sports. We own the network. We own the venues.”

According to the Bloomberg article that was published back on Thursday, Leonsis said he wants to “be respectful to the Nationals owners, the Lerner family, but that it makes a lot of sense in this super city vernacular to have year-round teams on one platform.’”

The ownership of the Washington Nationals has been a source of intrigue and has fans wondering what’s next for the team as they continue to be their “re-tool” for years.

Lenonsis has openly said that he would like to purchase the Washington Nationals in the past, and according to reports, he made an offer to purchase the team last year. Even as early as last month, Lenonsis said he “still wants” to purchase The Nationals.

One of the main stumbling blocks for purchasing the Nationals was what was happening with the MASN TV deal between the Orioles and the Nationals. Now that there is new ownership for the Orioles and an owner who wants to settle the dispute between the two teams, the subtitling block might no longer exist.

There were reports that the “Nationals were no longer for sale,” according to managing partner Mark Lerner in a Washington Post article in February of this year.

More to come…
