Nats Acquire Infielder Jorbit Vivas

Via Washington Nationals

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

The Nationals announced yesterday afternoon that they acquired infielder Jorbit Vivas from the New York Yankees for right-handed pitcher Sean Paul Liñan. This adds more depth and flexibility to their infield while also seeing which players can maintain discipline at the plate.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • Yesterday afternoon, the Nationals acquired infielder Jorbit Vivas from the New York Yankees in exchange for right-handed pitcher Sean Paul Liñan

  • Vivas made his debut last season for the Yankees on May 2nd, playing in a total of 29 games across the season with 56 at-bats

  • Across those 56 at-bats, he recorded six runs across nine hits with five RBIs and a solitary home run

  • This Spring Training, he’s shown real promise, improving on his average (.161 last regular season to .227), on-base percentage (.266 last regular season to .370), and OPS (.516 last regular season to .643)

    🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

“He’s someone that we’ve admired for some time,” said manager Blake Butera on Vivas and what he brings to the table. “And he gives us the ability to play multiple positions in the infield. [...] But I think the ability he has to get on base -- in the Minor Leagues, he walked more than he struck out, which is a pretty impressive thing to do. And he did it multiple years. He controls at-bats, and we’ll have some runway for him to play.”

Game Recaps and a Look Ahead

Via Washington Nationals

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

As the Nats’ 2026 Spring Training comes to a close, their performances stay steady and strong even in defeat. With the last game ahead of them, the team looks to gain some more momentum going into the beginning of their regular season schedule.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • Friday evening, the Nats lost a tight battle against the Miami Marlins 3-2 in a game that saw Foster Griffin and the bullpen record eight strikeouts, with five of them coming from Griffin himself

  • Saturday afternoon saw the Nationals beating the New York Mets 3-1, powered by a Joey Wiemer two-run home run and eight collective strikeouts from Cade Cavalli and the bullpen

  • Yesterday, the Nats lost 8-1 to the Baltimore Orioles despite Mitchell Parker and the bullpen putting up a total of 16 strikes, with half of them coming from Parker alone during his four innings

  • This afternoon at 1:05 PM ET, the Nationals take on the Baltimore Orioles at Nationals Park in what is the last game of Spring Training; Shane Baz will be on the mound for the Orioles, and you can watch the game on Nationals.tv and listen on WJFK 106.7 The Fan via the MLB app

    🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

As Spring Training comes to a close, the Nats look to close it out on a high note and go into the season with momentum. Despite losing their first game against the Orioles, there were plenty of positives coming out of that game, chief among them being the performance from the pitchers throughout the game. That performance and performances like those are what can give the team the momentum they need going into a more difficult schedule at the beginning of the season, even when they do lose.

Regular Season Preview

Via Washington Nationals

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

As we leave Spring Training behind us and pivot to focusing on the regular season, the beginning of the Nats’ schedule comes more into the forefront. Their schedule to start off is more difficult, meaning they’ll need all the power to really take it to the teams they’re facing.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Nationals have the next two days off after their last Spring Training matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, before the start of the regular season

  • The regular season starts for the Nats on Thursday, March 26th, against the Chicago Cubs in Chicago at Wrigley Field at 2:20 PM ET, with two more games on Saturday and Sunday

  • After the series against the Cubs, the Nationals continue on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park from Monday, the 30th, to Wednesday, April 1st

  • The team’s first home series comes against the Los Angeles Dodgers from April 3rd to 5th, with a series against the St. Louis Cardinals coming right on the heels of that one from April 6th to 8th

    🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

The Nationals’ schedule going into the regular season is a more difficult one to start off with. Not only did the first three teams they’re going to be facing make the playoffs last year, but one of them is the defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers. This makes the way the Nats start the season against the Cubs particularly crucial because they’re going to want the energy and drive of that performance to power them through this difficult part of their schedule until they reach a more down-on-their-luck team in the St. Louis Cardinals.
