Washington Nationals’ minor league coach Tripp Keister can’t wait to get started

Fredericksburg manager dealt with COVID-19 in July, heads to Instructional League on Monday after several months away from the game …

Tripp Keister was in Florida when the Nationals and the rest of Major League Baseball shut down Spring Training facilities.

“Hey, it is going to be a couple of weeks, then we will get back to work,” Keister said Tuesday, referring to his thoughts, and others, in March. “Here we are seven months later.”

Paul Menhart wanted to remain the Nationals’ pitching coach, ‘but I was never Davey’s guy’

Paul Menhart was watching the Georgia-Auburn football game Saturday night when his phone rang. It was Dave Martinez, the Washington Nationals’ manager and, for just more than a year, Menhart’s boss. The news Martinez delivered floored Menhart, the Nationals’ pitching coach for their World Series run and a member of the organization for 15 years: When his contract expired at the end of October, he would not be retained.

We had a brief look at Carter Kieboom in 2019 and a more extended look in 2020, and neither have left us feeling warm and fuzzy about the future of the young prospect.

Davey Martinez and Mike Rizzo are entrenched. They will be together for six years if they serve the full length of their recent contract extensions. Together, they will make multiple shifts this winter after the Nationals flopped this summer.

The United States Supreme Court is allowing a class-action lawsuit to proceed from minor-league baseball players who allege they are being paid less than the minimum wage. Attorney and former minor-league baseball pitcher Garrett Broshuis broke the news on Twitter on Monday morning. Broshuis is leading the class-action against Major League Baseball for unlawful wages.

It’s easy to root for Dusty Baker, but not the Astros

Dusty Baker always has a story.

So, when asked about coaching Bob Melvin, now the Oakland manager, or Mike Aldrete, now the Oakland first base coach, Baker could easily reminisce. He was the hitting coach for both once upon a time in San Francisco. An umpire told Baker that Aldrete -- whom Baker calls “Aldo” -- could win a batting title one day. In turn, Aldo crept into Baker’s subconscious.

MLB playoffs scores, takeaways: Dodgers rally for Game 1 win vs. Padres; Yankees' pitching plan backfires

All four of Major League Baseball's best-of-five Division Series were in action Tuesday with two NLDS Game 1s and a pair of ALDS Game 2s. The Braves started the day with a Game 1 win over the Marlins before the Astros homered their way to another win over the Athletics. The Rays evened up their ALDS matchup with the Yankees by homering four times and striking out their competition 18 times in a Game 2 victory. The Padres fell to the Dodgers in the nightcap.

Former MLB player raises over $91K for family of man killed by Texas police

Former Major League Baseball player Will Middlebrooks has raised more than $89,000 to cover funeral and memorial expenses following the death of childhood friend Jonathan Price, who was killed by a Texas police officer over the weekend.

The onetime Boston Red Sox infielder launched an online fundraiser after Price, who is Black, was fatally shot in the chest Saturday while trying to break up a domestic dispute at a gas station in Wolfe City, Texas, located 70 miles northeast of Dallas. As of Tuesday, more than $91,000 had been raised.

MLB Reinstates Domingo German

Major League Baseball has reinstated Yankees’ right-hander Domingo German from the restricted list, the team announced. German is on the Yankees 40-man roster, but no changes were needed to accommodate the move. He is not eligible for postseason play, so as has been stated previously, he will not appear in the majors this season.
