BOSTON – The Washington Nationals put up a strong fight in this afternoon’s game, but the Boston Red Sox unfortunately edged a 4-2 win after Boston’s Rafael Devers' two-run double in the eighth inning.

Despite the loss, there were plenty of bright spots for Nationals fans to cheer about. First baseman Joey Meneses notched his first homer of the season early in the 2nd inning, and the team showed resilience throughout the game.

The game started with a bang when Meneses slammed a home run of 103.7 mph and a distance of 388 ft, giving the Nationals an early lead of 1-0. However, the Red Sox quickly responded when Boston outfielder Wilyer Abreu hammered a home run, tying the game at 1-1. The Nationals pushed back and in the top of the 5th, left fielder Eddie Rosario's home run regained the lead for Washington at 2-1.

Mirroring an early gameplay, the Red Sox tied it up once more at 2-2 when outfielder Jarren Duran double brought in a run.

The Nationals then faced a critical moment in the top of the 6th when Luis García Jr. grounded into a double play. Two innings later in the top of the 8th, the Nationals’ center fielder Victor Robles was caught stealing 2nd base, putting Washington in a tough situation before entering the final inning.

Moments later, the Red Sox surged ahead in the bottom of the 8th with Devers hitting a double, scoring two runs and ultimately winning the game 4-2.

The Washington Nationals will face the Boston Red Sox tomorrow afternoon as the final day of their 3-game series.
