Oakland, CA - The last game ever at the Oakland Colsumen for the Washington Nationals has been put in the books. This afternoon, the Washington Nationals lost 6-7 against the Oakland A’s to finish their weekend series.

RHP Trevor Williams got today’s start, looking to continue his hot streak on the mound this season. Today, he went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Williams, did however, strike out seven and throw 78, 54 of them for strikes.

The Nationals quickly got off to a good start by scoring two of their __ runs in the top of the third inning. Washington Nationals center fielder for the day Jacob Young doubled on a line drive to right fielder Lawrence Butler, scoring Riley Adams.

The Nationals would score one in the top of the fourth thanks to a Jacob Young double on a line drive to right fielder Lawrence Butler, scoring Riley Adams. The Nationals would score one in the top of the fifth, 4-0, thanks to a 429-foot homerun from Lane Thomas. The homerun had a launch angle of  29 degrees and an exit velo of 106.1 mph.

Lane Thomas finished the game 3-4 with three RBIs, a home run, and a stolen base.

The Nationals scored four additional runs in the top of the sixth thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Joey Meneses and Lane Thomas, putting the Nationals on what seemed an easy path to a series win and a happy flight to Los Angels to face the Dodgers.

However, the Nationals lead didn’t last long. Things got interesting, and the A’s were able to pull ahead in the bottom of the sixth when RHP Derek Law relieved Williams by scoring six runs. Law threw 22 pitches during his 0.1 innings of work, but only 12 were strikes.

Law gave up these runs by throwing a wild pitch and giving up two hits, as the A’s came back to tie the game. After the wild pitch, the Nationals manager, Davey Martinez, pulled Law and replaced him with RHP Jordan Weems. Weems faced three batters to close out the inning, but the damage was done as the A’s took a 7-6 lead heading into the late innings of the game.

Entering today’s game, the Nationals bullpen, specifically Hunter Harvey and Robert Garcia, are tied for second in the National League (T3rd in MLB) with 13 strikeouts in relief. They are tied for fourth in the NL (5th in MLB) with 15.95 strikeouts per nine innings. However, Law (5) and Weems (1) have given up six combined runs over the past seven games.

The Nationals are now 6-9 as they will head south to Los Angeles, where they will kick off the remaining three games of their West Coast swing tomorrow against the LA Dodgers.

Today, the Nationals went 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position, showing a slight improvement from their performance in the past couple of games. On Saturday, the Nationals went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position; on Friday, they went 0-for-10.

The Nationals have yet to announce who will start tomorrow’s night game against the Dodgers. However, the team did announce that LHP Patrick Corbin will get the start for the Nationals on Tuesday night, followed by RHP Jake Irvin on Wednesday night before the team heads back to D.C. to face the Houston Astros on the weekend.
