Washington D.C. - The Washington Nationals finished their two-game series against the Baltimore Orioles tonight with a 7-6 loss.

The Nationals are now back to .500 with a record of 18-18 after a close game.

The Nationals almost pulled off their 13th come-from-behind victory of the season. However, the Nationals couldn’t pull it out as they fell in extra innings, but not after making it interesting thanks to a Luis García Jr. RBI double.

The Baltimore Orioles will next play the Washington Nationals at Oriole Park on August 13th and 14th.

Starting on the mound tonight for the Washington Nationals was LHP Mitchell Parker. LHP Mitchell Parker pitched 5.2 innings, striking out three and giving up two runs on five hits. He has pitched 77, 53 of them being strikes. He faced 21 batters.

Parker was relieved at the top of the sixth with two outs by RHP Derek Law, who pitched 0.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit.

On the offense, the Nationals would only score one run on hits. The Nationals got the scoring started in the bottom of the second when Trey Lipscomb got an RBI single on a ground ball to center fielder Cedric Mullins, scoring Joey Meneses and giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead. It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the ninth that the Nationals would score again, thanks to an Eddie Rosario solo home run that went to center field, bringing the game within one run.

The Nationals would get the go-ahead run on the basepath, thanks to a Trey Lipscomb and a Jacob Young walk, bringing up CJ Abrams. However, after a wild pitch, Trey Lipscomb would advance to third. CJ Abrams followed with a game-tying RBI single, bringing in a run from Lipscomb. Shortly after, García Jr. strands Jacob Young at third, sending the game to extra innings.

The Nationals would mount two more comeback attempts but couldn’t pull it off in the end.

The Nationals will now head to Boston for a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, with their series kicking off on Friday night. Scheduled to get the start on Friday night is LHP Patrick Corbin, who’s in search of his first win of the 2024 season. Corbin currently has an ERA of 6.45 entering Friday night’s game.
