Washington D.C. - The Washington Nationals had a great start to their weekend series against the Seattle Mariners with a win tonight, 6-1. It was a great bounce-back after dropping the final game of their three-game series with the Minnesota Twins, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon. The Nationals’ record now is at 22-27.

The Nationals were down 1-0 right at the start of the game as J.P. Crawford homered to center field on the second pitch of the first off LHP Mackenzie Gore. After that inning, Gore seemed to settle down a bit and then went on to not give up another run.

Speaking of Gore, the south-paw went seven innings, giving up one run on four hits. He struck out eight, walked one, and threw a total of 98 pitches, with 65 of them being strikes. Gore’s record is now 3-4 with a 3.04 ERA.

However, the Nationals were able to take the lead thanks to a three-run Luis García Jr. fifth of the season home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving in CJ Abrams and Joey Meneses.

Entering tonight's game, Luis García Jr. has the best average (.356) with Runners in Scoring Position for all the Washington Nationals. Additionally, García Jr. has 12 RBI in 15 May games after having 11 in 25 March and April.

Two innings later in the bottom of the sixth, the Nationals scored two more runs thanks to a 406-foot Keibert Ruiz home run, Ruiz’s third of the season.

The Nationals added another run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a 378 ft. solo home run from Eddie Rosario to right field off of former Washington Nationals pitcher Austin Voth.

Next up, the Nationals will continue their three-game series tomorrow night and will send RHP Trevor Williams (4-0; 2.35 ERA) to face RHP Logan Gilbert (3-2; 3.20 ERA),

Mariners RHP Logan Gilbert will face the Nationals for the second time in his career. His last appearance against the Nationals came on June 28, 2023, at T-Mobile Park, where he got the loss after pitching 6.0 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out four, and walking two. In Gilbert’s last start on May 20th against the New York Yankees, he pitched 6.0 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, struck out one, and walked one. He pitched a total of 81, with 53 of them being strikes.
