Washington Nationals secure their 12th comeback victory to clinch series against the Blue Jays

The Nationals get their 12th comeback win of the season beating the Toronto Blue Jays 11-8.

Washington D.C. -  Another comeback victory for the Washington Nationals as they won this afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays and took another series. The Nationals were once again trailing, and thanks in part to a Jesse Winker home run, the Nationals got their 12th comeback win of the season, which is the most right now in Major League Baseball.

With today’s win, the Nationals are now 17-17, in 3rd place in the NL East, and again at .500 with another chance to get a winning record with the Baltimore Orioles coming to town for a mid-week two-game series before heading off on another road trip.

The Washington Nationals were down 6-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, and thanks to a five-run inning, the Nationals took the lead and would score an additional four over the remaining innings to complete the win, 11-8.

A four-run home run by Jesse Winker, his eighth of the season, to right-center field, scoring Luis García Jr. and Nick Senzel, put the Nationals ahead 7-6. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Eddie Rosario hit a two-run home run, scoring Jesse Winker and extending the Nationals' lead to 9-6. (Entering the series finale against the Blue Jays, Rosario was batting .096)

The Nationals added one more run in the bottom of the eighth when a sacrifice fly by Joey Meneses scored CJ Abrams from third, making it 11-8, the final score.

LHP MacKenzie Gore only went 3.0 innings, giving up six runs (2 earned runs) on six hits, striking out four, giving up one home run, and walking two.

The Nationals bullpen once again was impressive, only giving up one run over six innings this afternoon.

Getting his eleventh save of the season was Kyle Finnegan as he had an uneventful bottom of the ninth by getting Daulton Varsho to pop out to third baseman Trey Lipscomb, a Danny Jansen line out to center fielder Jacob and Isiah Kiner-Falefa grounding out to shortstop CJ Abrams to end the game.

The Nats Report player of the game was Luis García Jr. García Jr. went 4-4 with a HR, 4 RBI, 2 R, SB.
