Washington Nationals sweep the Miami Marlins

Miami, FL: The Washington Nationals swept the Miami Marlins with their 14th win of this season tonight. The Nationals beat the Marlins 7-2 and are now 14-14 (and .500) as they head to Arlington, Texas, to face the 2023 World Series Champions: the Texas Rangers.

In search of reaching .500, the Nationals sent RHP Jake Irvin to the mound, hoping he would help the Nationals reach that goal. Irvin went 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out three, and giving up a home run. However, the Nationals’ offense would help Irvin and give him run support. Thanks to CJ Abrams, Jesse Winker, Ildemaro Vargas, and Joey Meneses, the Nationals were able to score seven on seven hits.

Abrams kicked off the scoring for the Nationals by hitting a home run, his seventh of the season, on a 370 ft fly ball to right field, scoring Alex Call.

Also, a Joey Meneses RBI-ground-rule double on a fly ball to left-center field, scoring Jesse Winker and helping the Nationals take a 6-2 lead. Ildemaro Vargas hit an RBI single on a line drive to left fielder Nick Gordon, scoring Joey Meneses, and have the Nationals take a 7-2 lead, which would be the game's final score.

With their win tonight, the Nationals secured their first four-game sweep in this wrap-around series for the 2024 season. It is also Washington's first four-game sweep since Sept. 23-26, 2019 vs. Philadelphia. That was a five-game sweep due to a doubleheader on Sept. 24.

The Nats Report player of the Game goes to CJ Abrams. Entering tonight, CJ Abrams has reached base safely in a career-high 14 straight games (.400 OBP). Abrams has hit safely in 13 of the 14 games, going 18-for-57 (.316) with five doubles, three triples, three homers, seven RBI, six walks, one hit by pitch, two stolen bases, and 13 runs scored during the streak. Abrams now has hit safely in 14 of the 15 games. Abrams went 1-3 with a home run, 2 BB, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB.

Next, as mentioned, the Washington Nationals will head to Arlington, Texas, to face the Texas Rangers.
