Miami, FL - The Washington Nationals began their four-game series with the Miami Marlins by winning the first two games, bringing their season record to 12-14 and securing their second consecutive victory. Today, the Nationals won 11-4.

Following these wins, the Nationals improved their road record to 8-6 and their record against NL East opponents to 3-2.

In today's game, LHP Mitchell Parker started for the Nationals, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out two, and walking two. In the bottom of the first, Parker issued his first career walk after pitching 12 innings and facing 47 batters, which included hitters from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros. Parker faced 19 batters today and threw 82 pitches, and 55 of them were strikes.

The Nationals took control in the top of the fifth inning when Jesse Winker hit a 391-foot grand slam to right field, scoring Nick Senzel, Jacob Young, and CJ Abrams, giving the Nationals a 6-1 lead. They continued to build on this lead with one run in the sixth inning, three more in the seventh, and one more in the ninth.

Kiebert Ruiz hit his first home run since returning from the injured list in the top of the seventh, making it his second home run of the season. In the same inning, CJ Abrams hit his fourth triple of the 2024 season.

Trey Lipscomb got his first double of the season in the top of the ninth. A sacrifice fly moved him to third base, and a Nick Senzel groundout RBI scored him, extending the Nationals' lead to 11-4.

Jacob Young had an impressive game, going 2-4 with a hit-by-pitch, an RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. With his two stolen bases, Young is now 21-for-21 on stolen base attempts to start his career. His four runs scored today are the most by any Nationals player this season. He joins Elly De La Cruz and Bobby Witt Jr. (who has achieved this twice) as the only players to score four runs in a single game this season.

In other Nationals prospect news, top prospect Dylan Crews returned to Double-A Harrisburg’s lineup today after missing 10 days with a hamstring issue. Crews went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Senators’ 3-1 win over the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers).

The Nationals continue their series against the Marlins tomorrow at 1:40 PM EDT. They will send LHP Patrick Corbin to the mound in search of his first win of the 2024 season. Corbin currently has a record of 0-3 with a 6.51 ERA.
