JUNE RECAP

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Washington struggled a bit in June, falling to fourth in the NL East, but they remain one of the best offenses in baseball. The Nats posted a 13-14 record and gave up 242 hits, but remain second in the MLB in total runs scored.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
Player of the Month: In June, Luis Garcia Jr. led the team in slugging percentage (.776), RBIs (27), and home runs (11).
Pitching: As a team, the Nats posted a 4.69 ERA in June. While the Nats didn't pitch their best as a team, Foster Griffin had a fantastic month with a 1.15 ERA, .80 WHIP, and 33 strikeouts through 31.1 innings pitched.
Notable Series Outcomes: The 2-1 series win against the Mariners, the 1-3 series loss against the Phillies, and the 0-3 series loss against the Marlins.
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
When asked about Luis Garcia Jr. playing so well recently, Cade Cavalli said, “I've seen it since I was drafted. He can hit, and it's really impressive to watch. Im just glad he’s in our lineup and I don't have to face him.”
📈 MORNING STAT
In June, the Nationals had 17 save opportunities but only recorded 7 saves.

BENCHES CLEAR IN BOSTON

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
After Cade Cavalli struck out Wilson Contreras in the bottom of the fourth, Cavalli said, “Sit down, boy,” and Contreras started making his way towards the mound. The benches and dugouts cleared, and Contreras threw his helmet at Cavalli, but missed and hit Andres Chaparro. There was pushing and shoving, but the dispute was resolved quickly.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
Ejections: For the Red Sox, Wilson Contreras, Nate Eaton, and interim manager Chad Tracy were ejected. Miles Mikolas was the only National to get ejected.
Cavalli: Cavalli was upset because he felt Contreras taunted the Nationals with a high bat flip after Contreras' home run on Monday. Cavalli finished the game with 13 strikeouts and allowed only one hit.
Contreras: This was the second game in a row where Contreras was ejected. On Monday, he was ejected in the second inning for arguing a call. Contreras said, “I got ejected last night from nothing. I got ejected today even though I was walking back to the dugout.”
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
After the game, Miles Mikolas said, “Guys are going to chirp at each other, and sometimes you can chirp at a guy, and he goes back to the dugout, and sometimes it turns into more of a confrontation… Anytime anything like that happens, we're going to go out, and we're going to defend our teammates as best we can.
After the game, Cade Cavalli was asked about the team and responded, “Our culture is great, we love one another, and we've got each other's back. I’m super grateful for them.”
📈 MORNING STAT
Contreras made history by being the first Red Sox player to be ejected in two straight games.
