⚾️⚾️ The Morning Briefing: Josiah Gray named to NL All-Star team

Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, July 3rd. My name is Haden Raymer and this is your morning briefing. Today’s top story is Josiah Gray was named to the All-Star

Be sure to follow The Nats Report on Twitter for all the latest headlines and more.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Hey now, you’re an All-Star Josiah Gray

Yesterday it was announced that right-handed pitcher Josiah Gray made the All-Star team as the National’s lone representative. He’s surely earned it. What’s even more impressive, Gray was one of the worst pitchers in baseball last year and has now made the All-Star team.

Gray was not the only National who merited consideration, as Jeimer Candelario and Lane Thomas have both produced seasons worthy of a trip to the All-Star game. This isn’t the end of the line for either, as players often don’t attend for various reasons, and these two are likely first in line in the National League.

You can read more about Josiah Gray’s All-Star selection here.

Nationals win series against the Phillies

The Nationals took the series against the Philadelphia Phillies on the road. Stone Garrett hit a two-run shot for the National’s only runs. Josiah Gray struck out eight over six innings in what now feels like a clincher for the All-Star game. Mason Thompson, Kyle Finnegan, and Hunter Harvey collectively allowed two hits over three innings with four strikeouts in a 2-1 victory.

Game two didn’t go nearly as well. In the 19-4 loss, the Nationals allowed four home runs. All the damage was done in the first five innings, with MacKenzie Gore allowing seven runs over 2.2 innings. At least Dom Smith homered and Lane Thomas went 2-5. Jose A. Ferrer made his debut and struck out two.

In game three, Stone Garrett hit a grand slam in the 5-4 victory. Candelario provided the key insurance run with a solo shot in the 5th. The bullpen was lockdown in the game, allowing one run over four innings, striking out three.

Your Nats Report Player of the Game is Stone Garrett who drove in six runs in the series. The next game is tonight at 6:05 p.m. against the Cincinnati Reds on MASN2.
