⚾️⚾️ The Morning Briefing: Nats beat Astros in series finale

Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, June 16, 2023. My name is Haden Raymer and this is your morning briefing. Today’s top story is the Nationals avoiding the sweep in their first extra-innings game this season.

Be sure to follow The Nats Report on Twitter for all the latest headlines and more.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Nationals avoid being swept by reigning champs

It took nine innings for either team to score in last night’s game. Keibert Ruiz broke up the scoreless streak with a leadoff homer in the top of the ninth. The Astros responded with a Kyle Tucker leadoff double and a two out, 2-2 count single from Yainer Diaz to drive Tucker in.

In the 10th inning the Nats singled, walked, and got hit by a pitch to score three runs. This time the Astros didn’t have a response and Carl Edwards Jr. earned the save.

The Nats then have to hurry home to take on the Miami Marlins at 7:05 p.m. on MASN.

Ruiz is your Nats Report Player of the Game with his 3-5 performance, including a home run and two RBIs.
