⚾️⚾️ The Morning Briefing: Nats drop three of four to the Mets

Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, July 31st. My name is Haden Raymer and this is your morning briefing. Over the weekend, the Nats dropped three of four to the Mets. Let’s talk about it.

Be sure to follow The Nats Report on Twitter for all the latest headlines and more.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Nationals win one out of four against the New York Mets

Over the weekend the Nats played a four game series against the Mets. The Nationals dropped three of the games, but in the end the Mets still ended up being sellers on the trade market, trading away David Robertson and Max Scherzer.

The Nationals lost 2-1 to the Mets in game one. Robertson earned his last save with the team and then was promptly traded, which caused Scherzer to express his frustrations with the media.

Following the trade of David Robertson last night, Max Scherzer says he needs to have "a conversation" with Mets brass regarding the direction they intend to take with the team. He politely declined more specifics, but Scherzer is seeking answers ahead of the deadline.

The Nats offense in this game was quiet, but Alex Call had a solid game, going 1-1 with two walks. CJ Abrams went 1-3 with two walks.

The Nats fell 5-1 in game two. Luis García went 3-4 with a home run and a double off of Scherzer. Dom Smith went 1-2 with a double and a walk.

The Nationals ran away with a victory in game three, winning 11-6. Jeimer Candelario went 2-3 with a double. Riley Adams went 2-5 with two doubles. García and Joey Meneses both notched two hits.

Finally in game four the Nats lost again, this time 5-2. CJ Abrams went 2-3, but outside of that the offense was not great, with the Nationals not hitting for extra-bases once in the game. On the bright side, the bullpen did not allow a run in this game.

CJ Abrams once again earns Player of the Game honors. It’s been a very good month for the young shortstop. The next game is tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers, with the game starting at 7:05 p.m. on MASN2.

Down on the Farm

The Rochester Red Wings split the doubleheader against the Worcester Red Sox 4-3 (L) and 2-1 (W). Travis Blankenhorn was named Player of the Month. Jake Noll went 3-3 with a home run and a double. Jake Alu went 3-7 with two walks. Darren Baker went 2-7 with a walk.

The Harrisburg Senators took on the Altoona Curve and lost 4-3. James Wood went 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Robert Hassell III doubled and Trey Lipscomb walked and stole a base.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks lost 11-7 to the Brooklyn Cyclones. Jeremy De La Rosa went 1-4 with a double and a walk. Catcher Geraldi Diaz hit a home run and had five RBIs.

The FredNats won 9-8 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Jonathan Thomas continues to hit, going 1-3. Roismar Quintana went 3-3 with a double and scoring twice. Jarlin Susana threw 3.2 innings while allowing seven runs. While he’s going through a rough stretch, it’s important to remember he’s over two years younger than your typical Low-A player.
