⚾️⚾️ The Morning Briefing: Nats take series over Red Sox

Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, August 18th. My name is Haden Raymer. The Nationals beat the Red Sox last night. Let’s talk about it.

Sorry for the delay in today’s briefing as it has now become the Afternoon Briefing.

Be sure to follow The Nats Report on Twitter for all the latest headlines and more.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Nationals take game three against the Red Sox

The Nationals took a gigantic lead over the Red Sox in the fifth and sixth innings against the Red Sox yesterday. By the end of the sixth inning, the Nationals were up 9-1 over Boston. After six runs given up by Robert Garcia in the seventh, the game came to 9-7.

Outside of Robert Garcia, the Nationals pitching looked excellent in their 10-7 victory. Patrick Corbin threw six innings of one-run ball while striking out six. Hunter Harvey continues to show that he can be a setup man of the future for the Nationals. Kyle Finnegan has been one of the more dominant relievers at preventing runs, and since June he ranks, fourth in ERA of relievers that qualify.

The Nationals offense got 10 hits and drew five walks, with Keibert Ruiz, Riley Adams, and Stone Garrett all hitting a double, and Joey Meneses with two. Jeter Downs excelled in his start at shortstop, drawing two walks, getting a single, and stealing a base. CJ Abrams was supposed to have a day off, but still stole two bases.

Tonight the Nationals take on the Phillies yet again, taking on Michael Lorenzen, who no-hit the team in his last start. The Phillies have had the upper hand against the Nats this season, but hopefully, the Nationals can stay hot and improve upon their 4-6 record against the Phillies.
