⚾️⚾️ The Morning Briefing: Nats win the series against the Mariners

Good Morning Washington Nationals Fan,

Here are the latest headlines and analyses around the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for today, June 29, 2023. My name is Haden Raymer and this is your morning briefing. Today’s top story is the Nationals taking the series win over the Seattle Mariners.

Be sure to follow The Nats Report on Twitter for all the latest headlines and more.

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Nationals win game three over Mariners

Patrick Corbin struck out a season-high nine batters over seven innings in the 4-1 win. Amos Willingham made his major league debut and allowed the lone run, while Hunter Harvey has not allowed an earned run in his last five outings.

Keibert Ruiz went 2-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Jeimer Candelario walked and doubled. Dom Smith even got an extra-base hit. It was a well-rounded win for the Nationals who in all got eight hits.

Of course, there was some drama. In the top of the sixth, the Dom Smith double knocked in Keibert Ruiz, except the throw to the plate was wide, taking the catcher, and Ruiz tried to avoid the tag out of the baseline. The umpire ruled Ruiz out, and Davey was not happy about that.

After that? Ildermaro Vargas doubled and Dom Smith safely scores at home.

The Nationals have an off day today but are traveling to take on the Philadelphia Phillies for the last leg of the road trip.

Domingo German throws a perfect game

Yankees pitcher Domingo German threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history last night. He did so on 99 pitches, which is quite impressive. Earlier this season, German served a suspension for foreign substances being found on his hand, or at least they were too sticky. German has also in the past served an 81-game suspension for domestic violence.

Down on the Farm

The Rochester Red Wings won in a tight, 7-6 game. Jake Alu went 4-5. Blake Rutherford continues to rake in the Nats system, going 2-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Jackson Rutledge got promoted to Rochester for his Triple-A debut and allowed five runs over 3.2 innings. Andres Machado, Jose A. Ferrer, and Tyler Danish all had scoreless appearances.

The Harrisburg Senators won 6-5 against the Altoona Curve. Trey Lipscomb went 2-4, Robert Hassell III homered, and Jacob Young went 2-3 with a walk.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks won 5-2 against the Hudson Valley Renegades. Jordy Barley, Will Frizzell, and Lucius Fox all homered. Brady House went 2-5. Andry Lara threw five scoreless innings.

The FredNats failed to complete the organizational sweep, losing 7-4 to the Salem Red Sox. The only real highlights from the game are a Daylen Lile triple and Maxwell Romero Jr.'s two-hit game.

That’s all from me today, enjoy your Thursday!
