Player of the Game: Cade Cavalli

Via Washington Nationals

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

For our Morning Briefings, we are going to spotlight a player who performed extremely well. So it just makes sense that Cade Cavalli is our Player of the Game.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • Cade Cavalli had quite the outing against the Chicago Cubs as the Opening Day starter, going 3 ⅔ innings and recording five strikeouts with just two earned runs

  • Though the majority of the Cubs’ runs came against the right-hander, so did the majority of their strikeouts, with him striking out a total of five Cubs batters out of the Nats’ team total of nine

  • It was quite the strong performance from Cavalli, who didn’t yet have the benefit of being able to relax with Nationals run support behind him while he was in the game, meaning he absolutely had to have his best stuff out there on the mound

🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE

This start proves that Cade Cavalli has not only come back strong from Tommy John surgery, in what will likely and hopefully be his first full season back, but that he has the capability to be one of the Nats’ primary pitchers going forward, so long as he stays healthy. While only pitched just under four innings, those innings showed promise that can be built upon and developed in the ramp-up to his next start for the team, as well as for the rest of the season.

💬 FAN’S CHOICE

What did you think of Cade Cavalli’s start yesterday? Do you think he can keep up this strong performance on a regular basis?

Opening Day: Rochester Red Wings

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH

Tonight the Rochester Red Wings will kick off their 2026 season as they face the Jumbo Shrimp (pretty cool name huh?) down at Vystar Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. The Red Wings are looking to start off the season really strong and so is a certain outfielder who is looking to get back the majors as soon as possible.

📊 THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Red Wings have yet to announce the starter for tonight’s game, however, the Jumbo Shrimp are starting LHP Robby Snelling. Snelling finished the 2025 MiLB season with a 9-7 record and an ERA of 2.51 over 136.0 innings pitched and struck out 166.
