⚾️⚾️ The Morning Briefing: Winter Meetings Begin

Good Morning Washington Nationals Fans,

Leading today’s Morning Briefing: The Winter Meetings begin in Nashville

The annual Winter Meetings, where general managers, player agents, and media meet begins today. On Wednesday, the Rule 5 Draft takes place, so expect a preview of that in your inbox that morning.

While we may not hear much in terms of signings and trades from the Nationals, this is where many take place, or at least the foundation for future ones is built. I’d expect we find out where Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and other stars play in 2024 this week.

As for the Nationals, we know they are pursuing a bat or two to fill out the infield and that designated hitter role, as well as pitching. Jeimer Candelario, Rhys Hoskins, and Jorge Soler have been the big names attached to the Nationals in rumors this season.

Around the MLB

Shohei Ohtani has reportedly received multiple offers over $500M. He is practically guaranteed to receive the largest contract in American sports history.

The Seattle Mariners continue to offload salary, this time using former top-five prospect Jarred Kelenic to dump the contracts of first baseman Evan White and starting pitcher Marco Gonzales in exchange for reliever Jackson Kowar and 2022 second-round pick Cole Phillips from the Braves, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Kelenic will essentially replace Eddie Rosario out in left field, with Gonzales serving as a back of the rotation arm. Kowar presents a project for the Mariners coaching staff, as a former top 100 prospect himself, he has never figured out how to solve his control issues at the big league level.
